Moulins or mills were an 18th century landscape fixture in the province of Anjou, a region famous for its kings, wine, antiques and history. More than 2,000 mills once crushed wheat; most closed with the advent of steam power and electricity. But Le Moulin Brégeon, powered by a stream coursing through the main building, ground on well into the 1960s. Mr. Robinson and his French partners, Pascal Merillou and Bernard Levenez, spent seven years renovating the three main buildings, preserving the original crepe facade on the stone walls, the mill stone and gears.
